It’s almost Halloween! I hid all my candy in the freezer so I wouldn’t be tempted to eat it. Instead, I ate a dozen of these donut holes. Whoops! But these things will change your life. I highly recommend making them. They’re baked if that makes you feel any better. I mean, they’re practically a health food compared with old-fashioned fried donuts. And most importantly, they are really really really good. And fun to make. And cute. And festive. Hide your Halloween candy and go make them now. Continue reading
Do you know what the difference is between a sweet potato and a yam? I thought I did, as I trusted the experts at my local grocery store not to lead me astray, but now, thanks to Wikipedia, I know I was wrong. I thought the orange things were yams, and the off white/light gold things were sweet potatoes. I also thought all the restaurants that served orange-colored “sweet potato fries” were in the business of selling lies, but turns out they are likely in the right! According to the all-knowing, all-powerful Wikipedia, orange sweet potatoes are often mislabeled as yams. True yams are generally round, scaly and starchy – not sweet. So…I could’ve had orange-colored breakfast biscuits after all! Do you think something is wrong with me considering how much time I spend pondering and researching the difference between a sweet potato and a yam? Maybe I should be reading up on the issues for the upcoming election instead. On second thought, no, potatoes are much more fun. Continue reading
It’s Finally Raining!! Cloudy and gray and raining. Yay!! I know typically a gloomy, wet Saturday doesn’t excite people, but I have been patiently (okay impatiently) waiting for fall to arrive for forever! It’s been way too hot to wear boots or make homemade soup and I have not been happy about it. It’s also rather hard to rationalize sleeping in and watching movies in bed all morning when it’s 80 degrees and sunny outside. Now I have an excuse to be lazy and I love it! Pumpkin flavored baked goods also taste much better when it’s cold outside, they seem somewhat out of place in summer weather. Guess I need to take a break from my laziness and whip up another batch of these muffins. Continue reading
After a month-long food blog sabbatical, I knew I had to come back with something good. And that I did. What is better than Julia Child? And chicken? And Paprika? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
I am always surprised at how easy Julia Child’s recipes are. Okay, they’re not super easy, they do require a little work, but I definitely think it’s harder to pronounce the names of her recipes than it is to cook them. Although, maybe I should keep my mouth shut until after I attempt to make chocolate souffle this weekend…
I think Julia’s secret is to use the freshest, most high quality ingredients. So don’t go using any frozen chicken named after a professional boxer – splurge on the fresh organic stuff. You won’t be sorry. Continue reading
